My Holiday Makeover with Design Essentials

Happy Holidays Blog Lovers!!! I just wanted to share with you guys my experience at the McBride Research Laboratories on this past Monday. I was invited to receive a special Holiday Makeover from the Design Essentials Styling Team as a part of their Holiday Blogger Event. I must say that my hair did need some special attention and I loved the outcome. I would like to personally thank Design Essentials for giving me the opportunity to come and receive my makeover. I learned a lot of new things and some great tips and tricks for maintenance of my own hair. I also was able to learn more information about their great products. Check out the pictures below of the step by step process of my hair makeover.

My hair was shampooed with the Design Essentials Organic Cleanse Deep Cleansing Shampoo. It deeply cleanses the hair without stripping the hair of it's natural oils. After my shampoo, I received a refresher for my hair color using their Colaura demi-permanent hair color in the shade Enigma (it is supposed to last for up to 16-20 washes). After my color was rinsed out I received a hair treatment which was a combination of the following: 6-N-1 reconstructive conditioner, Restore Vitamin Treatment, and Silk Essentials. This treatment was called a hair cocktail and is supposed to help reduce the shedding I was experiencing. My hair was later blow dried after being sprayed with HCO (my favorite) and I received a much needed trim and my hair was layered throughout to add body, bounce, and remove split ends. Before styling more Silk Essentials (my other favorite) was added to my hair as a heat protectant.

Francesca, the wonderful stylist, curled my hair using the pHusion flat iron. I was given beautiful, bouncy curls with a lot of shine and body (pictured above). My curls were later transformed into an up-do, to give me an idea for Holiday Parties. After my style was finished my hair was sprayed with Form Holding Spray and Reflections Liquid Shine.

I loved my experience and the stylist was ready and willing to answer all questions and provide much needed information during the makeover process.

Make-up Wednesdays: Real Techniques Blush Brush

Hello Blog Lovers!! This Weeks Make-up Wednesday is the Real Techniques Blush Brush. If some can remember I reviewed the Real Techniques core collection a few posts ago (you can find it here). I loved those brushes so much I had to purchase more brushes (more reviews to come)!! This brush is also a synthetic bristle brush and it works great! I would recommend this brush for individuals that are new to make-up and are afraid to use blush. Blush should never be too heavy, but it should be subtle. This brush delivers subtle effects and allows you to gradually layer on your blush color without it being over done. It picks up color easy and allows you to apply the color evenly and smoothly to your face. It is sold alone and comes packaged alone without the stand. Hair Product of the Week: Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque

To close out November (forgive my lack of posting, blame it on school) I would like to share with you guys another one of my favorite Shea Moisture products. I have been using this religiously since I purchased it and I can honestly say I LOVE IT. My hair loves it more!! This weeks HPOW is the Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque (with sea kelp, Argan oil, and Shea butter). It smells great and it's affordable. It contains No Parabens, No phtalates, No Paraffin, No Gluten, No Propylene Glycol, No Mineral Oil, No Synthetic Fragrance, No PABA, No Synthetic color, NO DEA, No Animal Ingredients, and most of all NO SULFATES!! It does however contain some all natural organic ingredients such as Shea Butter, Sea Kelp, and my favorite Argan Oil! It's purely organic and I have used it every single time I shampoo my hair (since purchasing it) and I love it! I combine this conditioner with my Creme of Nature Argan Oil Conditioner (applying it first) and then I apply the Deep Treatment Masque, covering the entire head; apply my plastic bag and leave it on for as long as I desire to do so. The directions suggest5-30 minutes then rinse. This conditioner can also be used as a frizz free moisturizing styling creme. I love the buffing brush because it give a really flawless application. The contour brush is my favorite because it allows you to give a soft contour to the face with over doing it. I use the pointed foundation brush to conceal my under eye area and I love it because it allows me to give a smooth coverage at the same time allowing me to build coverage. The collection comes with its own carrying case which turns into a stand that you can use while using the brushes on the go or when you travel. It's compact so it will fit into your purse or day bag. I loved these brushes so much I purchased the other sets and a few more brushes to try. I would definitely suggest these brushes to newbies and makeup fanatics and artists because they are affordable and of excellent quality.

How to prep your Quickweave for bed

Hello blog lovers! I wanted to share this video with you. I will be starting a few new series run on my blog and the first one will be quickweaves. I posted this video a while back on my YT channel and this is just a simple way to prep your hair at night if you are wearing a quickweave. Of course you can always flat wrap your hair for a smooth finish but I have discovered that sometimes that doesn't work well. Here are some quick tips for Quickweave maintenance:

1. Wrap your hair at night with a satin scarf or bonnet.
2. When detangling your hair start from the ends and work you way up to the top. This will decrease shedding.
3. Use only serums on your hair when styling (preferably silk serums). This will keep even the cheapest hair weave extension looking nice until you take it down.

Alternate ways to prep your hair weave at night

1. Take some hair clips (double or single pronged) and create large pin curls. This will minimize your curl time (if you don't know how to use a hot curler or curlers) in the morning and will preserve your curls from your initial style session with your personal stylist.
2. Flat wrap your hair using hair clips to ensure that it lays flat at night while you sleep to ensure a nice finish in the morning.
3.Use Flexi rods to curl your hair at night to keep you from having to curl it in the morning to insure a long lasting curl.
4. Detangle your hair separate your bangs and create a large pin curl (if you have a center part create two pin curls) separate you hair in the back into two large sections and create two double strand twists and clip them to the top of your head. Finish by wrapping your hair (demonstrated in the video)

Special Note: For curly styles (with length) at night:

1. Apply a little foaming mousse (I love Motions Styling Foam) to your hair (just one pump) and split your hair down the middle and do two double strand twists on the side. (See Video)

Check out the Video for how I prep my center part invisible part quickweave. The video was recorded using my webcam so the quality is not as good. Anyways, you can figure out whats going on. It's a double feature. I show you how to curl your hair using a hot curler as well.

My Experience: Walk-In Weaves by The Weave Express

Hello Blog Lovers!! I recently got a sew-in and I had to share with you guys my experience and let all of you that are stationed in the Atlanta Area know about this hair salon that specializes in sew-in hair extensions! My Sister (MsSimplyStylish) and I had decided that once the weather changed that we would go get sew-ins for a form of protective styling for our own hair. We originally decided that we wanted to try The Weave Shop that began its humble beginnings in Decatur, GA and has over the past few years expanded in numerous areas along the east coast. This particular weekend (this past weekend ) was a holiday weekend and we knew that there may be a possibility that we wouldn't be able to get our desired styles at such short notice without making an appointment. Even though that posed as an issue for time we decided to give it a try. The uniqueness about these particular salons is that they specialize in weaves only and they have a process that gets the job done in a short period of time. To make a long story short we decided to search for another salon that specialized in the same thing but would allow us to make appointments because the other salon only allowed walk-ins. We didn't want to deal with long wait times so we decided to find another salon. Upon searching through Google I discovered Walk-In Weaves by the Weave Express. I was immediately greeted with a catchy song and a overall nice looking website. Although I noticed there were some differences in the pricing compared to The Weave Shop I noticed that what they offered and how they described how they executed their weaving techniques I felt it was a fair price for what they offered. After sharing with my sister what I found I decided to contact all three locations to see if they had an appointment available for the two of us. I was able to successfully schedule an appointment at their Dunwoody Location. I was greeted by a nice friendly receptionist who was willing to schedule and appointment for me and my sister at anytime we were able to make it, which was a plus and I was happy.

The Experience

After finding the location via MapQuest (I don't have a GPS so don't judge me) with easy to follow directions My sister and I entered a mid-sized salon which was located in a shopping center. The walls were painted with a pretty combo of pink and green with black accent and very gorgeous pictures of their work done on models including Football Wives Star Chanita Foster. The receptionist was very friendly and greeted us with a smile and helped with choosing how we wanted our hair to be styled. We chose our styles and waited to be serviced. My sister went first and began her braiding process and once she was finished she was seated in the stylists chair for her to began the sew-in process. I was serviced next and I escorted to the braiding section of the salon (the braider was also friendly) after my hair was braided down I was serviced by a woman by the name of Connie. She was friendly as well. I was able to relay to the two women that serviced me how I wanted my hair to be styled and cut and I definitely received what I wanted. My sister was also satisfied and pleased with her stylist Tiffanie. We have both made up our minds that we would go back for another visit when we decide to get another sew-in.

Initial Reaction/Thoughts

I love this product! I think it has aided in my hair growth over the past few months. It leaves my hair feeling soft and easier to manage. It has become a part of my hair regimen and I do not skip out on using it. It doesn't matter what is going on I use it with the other ApHogee Product that I love and it works well for my hair!!

Make-up Wednesdays: The Perfect Eyebrow

Hello Blog Lovers!! This weeks Make-up Wednesday is all about creating the perfect sculpted eyebrow. It's long over due but I recently sculpted some eyebrows for a friend of mine and I just had to share it with you guys. I've been busy so excuse my lack of posting.

I shared with you guys my highly request eyebrow sculpting video from my YT Channel a while ago but its always good get a refresher course every once in a while. This post will be about how not to sculpt your eyebrow at home and not necessarily arching your eyebrow. I've already discussed arching eyebrows and how to fill in your eyebrows. I wouldn't suggest you arching your eyebrows at home unless you are good at doing it and you know exactly what you are doing. Before I proceed to discuss how to get the perfect eyebrow let me first address what you shouldn't do to your eyebrows: Please understand that these are a few things I have recently noticed and they need to be addressed so please don't get offended. I am that one person who will tell you what you should know because no one else has done so.

DON'TS

Do not use a black eye pencil to fill in your eyebrows. Your eyebrows may appear to be jet black or black in color but in all actuality it is far from being black. Just think about how you look with jet black painted on eyebrows. You should choose to use a dark brown eyebrow pencil and/or brow powder. Dark brown won't clash with jet black hair. Choosing a brown pencil to sculpt your brows is far from being wrong and far from looking horrendous on your face.

We are in 2011 and we are continuing to move forward so shaving your eyebrows completely off and penciling them in is so 1999 so please refrain from doing so. It's not cute and what would you do if it smudged or came off?? You should not be without eyebrows unless they burned off or maybe you took too much off so you just opted to shave them off (sculpting them with a pencil can fix that), or you are suffering from a medical disorder and you can't grown hair. One or two things will happen you will create that wretched sperm brow (discussed below) and/or you will draw the eyebrow in too low or too high. Makes no since.

Please refrain from creating sperm eyebrows. Your eyebrows are not naturally in the shape of sperm. If you are questioning what I mean I am simply referring to creating a little round ball at the end of the your eyebrows and drawing the thin tail end. It's not cute and it looks really weird. There are plenty of eyebrow sculpting kits available. They work!!

Some may disagree with this but don't permanently change the color of your eyebrows. Just because you chose to die your hair red doesn't mean red should be the color of your eyebrows. It's too much to take on at once and if you just have to go that route try using the correct eye pencil and coordinating eyeshadow to make that change. Some people change their hair color all the time and with that change may just go the color of the eyebrows as well. Then you will end up with no eyebrows due all of the stress you put on it.
Please avoid using a white based concealer for cleaning up and defining your brow. In the past I said using a white pencil would be okay..but in reality it just looks terrible in pictures and stands out awful in public

DO'S

Make sure you use a brow powder or appropriate eyeshadow to create a softer natural looking brow.
Give the eyebrow a natural look by making it lighter at the beginning of the brow and darker at the end.
Do use the correct tools to create the perfect brow e.g. spoolie, eyebrow brush/comb,angled brush to feel in the gaps.
Use a flesh tone concealer to make corrections.

Here is an updated list of what you need to create the sculpted eyebrow:

Things that you need:

Brow Pencil or Powder

Eyebrow brush

Q-tip (For small corrections, helping to make clean lines if you mess up or make it too thick)

Highlighting shadow

Concealer

2 Angled Brushes for defining the brow and for filling in the brow with the powder (One brush should be firm and the other soft)

Brush you eyebrows and make sure they are smooth and all hairs are going in the same direction.
I make sure that brow pencil is sharp. A dull pencil will not give you the definition that you need.
I start underneath my eyebrow and draw the defining line, following my natural arch from the beginning to the end.
I then draw the defining line at the top of my eyebrow, again following my natural arch. Making sure that I blend the end of the top into the bottom line making a perfect point. This is done to create the shape of the brow
Using short strokes you fill in the lines with the pencil trying to make it look as natural as possible. I currently use a brow powder (Some of my faves are NYX Brow Powder Kit, E.L.F Brow Powder Kit, and Browzing by Benefit)
I take my eyebrow brush to smooth and blend.
Using the concealer (Flesh tone) and your firm angled brush you can just draw a line underneath the lower defining line very close and using either your shadow brush or fingers blend in the line. Repeat this step above the brow as well to clean up any corrections. if you choose not to use concealer use the Q-tip to make corrections

PLEASE AVOID DOING THIS!!

Initial Reaction/Thoughts

I have used this shampoo a few times. I do like it. I am not quite ready to inform you to let you know how I really truly feel about it (Review soon). However, I will say that in my opinion it smells like any other creme of nature shampoo. They have a fragrance that is distinctive to let you know that it is a creme of nature shampoo. I cant really describe it per say but if you have used their shampoos in the past then you are familiar with the fragrance. Its not bad so don't get me wrong, comparing the scent to the One n' Only Argan Oil sulfate free shampoo and all of my other Argan Oil products I will say this shampoo has a faint smell of Argan Oil in it. Despite the smell the shampoo does perform like it says that it would. Everyone should know I love smell good products. I just noticed that it didn't smell as fragrant as the conditioner and the One n' Only Argan Oil Shampoo.

Hair Styling isn't just a Job its a Passion-Miss Nic

Hello Blog Lovers!! I hope all is well with each and everyone of you! I recently received an email from someone who watches my YT channel and from someone who follows the blog as well and they wanted to know if I had some tips or information on getting started as a hair stylist. I have made two videos so far for my YT channel in reference to this topic but I decided that I would just document the same by creating a blog post for it.

First I would just like to share my story on how I even decided to pursue this as career. I basically grew up in a hair salon. My mother is a licensed Master Cosmetologist. I was in the 4th grade when she decided to go to hair school to get her license and upon graduating from hair school she started her own salon business. My start began when I was about thirteen, my mother owned and operated her business alone so in order for her to maintain the business my sister and I had to help. In the process of helping I became her assistant/apprentice and that is where I learned all of the basics of hair styling. That included shampooing, roller setting, proper draping, and more. The older I became the more I was able to do without being in complete violation of State Board Regulations. I was only able to do so much for the clients but the majority of my training came after salon hours when it was time to do my hair, my mothers hair, and my sisters hair.

I was eager to learn how to do everything even though I swore all I wanted to do was own a salon and get someone else to work it for me. My mother was my very first client (first live client). After hours I would do her hair and she would talk me through the steps holding a mirror (which is a hairstylist pet peeve BTW along with touching your hair while it's being styled) and I would just go with the flow. I don't remember the age to be exact when I actually started doing all of this but it was somewhere between the end of 8th grade and the end of 9th grade. I remember doing so many things from relaxers to hair coloring including hair extensions for my mother and she didn't mind doing it at all. I learned how to do all types of hair styles and updo's because whatever she wanted she taught me how to do it. I did a few of my friends hair in high school and even through college which helped to build confidence and skill .

My mother specialized in hair maintenance and growing healthy relaxed hair. All of her clients were on her every two weeks regimen which basically consisted of salon visits for maintenance every two weeks. Of course that solely depended on the clients needs and desires. New clients would come based on their hair needs and a lot of them would come due to hair breakage or hair damage from improper maintenance. One thing that I can say is that just by being under my mother in a salon for so long (almost 12 years) I have learned a lot and have been inspired to do what I enjoy doing today along with the ins and outs of salon business and what I want to do for my salon as well as what I don't want to do for my salon.

After high school I decided to go to school for Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing and after receiving my diploma I decided to go to hair school. Hair school was something that I decided to do so that I could receive my hours and learn what was necessary for the state board exam to get my license. Everything with the exception of a few things was a refresher course for me.After that was the birth of this Blog that you read today Miss Nic's Elegant Edge (which was created while I was still in Cosmetology School. This is just a venue for me to share what I already know and to be able to use this a branding and marketing tool for myself as a stylist. Today I am licensed and I do desire to open up a salon in the future after I receive my MBA in business administration.

Until my next post I will leave you with this: If you desire to become a hair stylist the number one thing I tell those who ask is PRACTICE PRACTICE AND PRACTICE. If you are really serious try looking for a salon job where you can either start as the assistant (you usually would need some experience) to the stylists, become a shampoo tech (some experience my be required but they maybe willing to teach you), and/or be the receptionist for the salon. All of these positions are positions that will allow you the opportunity to be able to learn more and perfect what you already know.

Design Essentials Hosts Hydrastrength Styling WebEx

Hello Blog Lovers!! I was able to attend the Design Essentials HydraStrength WebEx on last week and have some information to share with you guys and especially those who are hairstylists and salon owners. I was able to get some inside information about the New HydraStrength Relaxer System and how it works. I must say that the WebEx (Web Seminar) was very well organized and put together nicely and it flowed smoothly. I was able to view a detailed demonstration on both a live model and a manniken while viewing a power point presentation that flowed in conjunction with the demonstration step by step.

The WebEx was hosted by Mrs. Natalie Hayes who is a Design Essentials Master Educator and who is also a part of their reseach and development team. She has done some work with Hapers Magazine as well as on the set of Sunday's Best. She gave both detailed information and instruction and performed both demonstrations.

What I learned:

The HydraStrength Relaxer is infused with botanicals with no additives and is a more gentler, moisturizing, strengthening relaxer system that will allow the hair to be more manageable and flexible while minimizing breakage and shedding. In this post I will discuss the additions and new and improved products introduced with the relaxer system. In the next post I will go into depth about each of the relaxers discussed.

The New HydraStrength Relaxer System introduces a new formula for the Design Essentials base creme, neutralizing shampoo, and the 6N1 Reconstrutive Conditioner. The relaxer system also introduces the Restore Vitamin Treatment. Each one will be discussed in further detail below.

Base Creme:

Offers calm, soothing scalp protection and is infused with Aloe, Shea Butter, Vitamin E and menthol.
It moisturized the scalp and reduces itching.
It is ideal for sensitive scalps and can be used with any chemical services for scalp protection.
It is ideal to apply to only the scalp and you dont have to go back and rub it into the scalp because the clients body heat will allow the formula to work properly.

Restore Vitamin Treatment:

Pre-Chemical protection and restorative treatment use to refortify and strengthen the hair. Should be added to the ends of the hair that has been relaxed to avoid overlapping of chemicals.

Will add moisture, strength, and elasticity to the hair.
It is infused with shea butter, Olive Oil, and milk protein
Adds Tripple Conditioning protection before and during the chemical service
It can be mixed with any conditioner to proved a power pack treatment
Restores hair strength inside and out.
Fortifies the hair leaving it smoother, softer, and more manageable

Neutralizing Conditioning Shampoo

Enriched with Olive Oil and Honey Nectar conditions and neutralizes the hair at the same time.
Removes all traces of product
Has a color indicator to ensure that residual relaxer is removed

6N1 Reconstructive Conditioner

I discussed the 6N1 Reconstructive Conditioner as one of the HPOW in a previous post and I must say that this is my favorite conditioner by far from the Design Essentials hair product line. As a part of the Hydra Relaxer System they improved the original 6N1 and included the following:

Fashion Event: Crave Star Productions Presents: Fashionography

Hello Blog Lovers!! I was able to attend this fabulous fashion show this past saturday night in Atlanta and I wanted to share the footage with my readers. I wanted to take pictures but I wasnt able to do so because of my position in the room. However, it came to me to just simply record it and share it with you guys. I was sent a personal invite to attend the show and I must say I was blown away by the designs that were featured in the show. All designers were Atlanta natives and if you love fashion just as much as I do then you will appreciate the talent and the Atlanta fashion influence portrayed in the show.

Fashionography was a mixer, fashion show and after party for the fashion inclined and the socially aware. Fashionography benefited the Center for Black Women’s Wellness (CBWW), a non-profit organization that provides free and low-cost services to empower black women and their families toward physical, mental and economic wellness. In addition to honoring CBWW, Fashionography they showcased fashions by Beachbling Swimwear, Fogle by Fogle, Marqo Kennedy Designs, Paul Anthony, Low Down and a special tribute showcase to gone but not forgotten Designer Kirk Kelley, via the Kirk Kelley Archives.

Beauty Product Review:Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

Hello Blog Lovers!! I purchased the Smashbox primer kit for face and eyes in December of 2010 for $38.00 for all three primers (Face, pore and fine lines, and eyeshadow primer). I have been using the face primer and the eyeshadow primer for a while and I now have some reviews for your guys that I want to share. Check out the review below.

What is it:

My Thoughts:

After using this product for the first time as a test underneath my foundation I was hooked!! I had to go and purchase my own tube to try for myself!! I saw a difference in my foundation after a long day and I must say that if you are not using a foundation primer you need to get one especially if you have a oily 'T' zone and or oily skin in general. This primer has made my foundation last from the start of the day to the end of the day without any of my natural oils shining through. I will definitely keep this as one of my staple products in my make-up kit!!

My Suggestions:

I would suggest using a dime size of this product as a whole over the face. Put a little on the five points of your face (forehead, nose, chin, ['T' zone], and each cheek) and rub it in. A little goes a long way with this product. Too much of this product will cause it to peel and become flaky. Since this primer is a silicone based primer, I recommend when cleaning your face and removing your make up that you use make-up wipes to remove your make-up completely then proceed to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin thoroughly. If not you may experience mild breakouts.

It saddens me when I have to make posts of those who have gone before us and who have left legacy's that will forever follow them and who have made such great impacts on both the beauty and fashion industry. I don't do it too often however, in light of my recent post and the news that featured Mr. Dariel Pulliam Jr. who is a Celebrity Hair Stylist I must pay my respects. I did not know him personally but from what I did know and could see from his work he was an extremely talented hair stylist and make-up artist. I love to follow great hairstylist and make-up artists because I admire great work.To many he is known for his appearances on Keyshia Cole's reality T.V. show: The Way it Is as Neffe's friend and hair stylist as well as the Fankie and Neffe Show. He recently worked as the make-up artist for What Chili Wants 2 and as a stylist at the Glambar Salon off of Peters Street in Atlanta. You can see more and view pics here.

Before ending my post I will say this life is short so cherish the time you have. Live, love, laugh and enjoy life because it is not promised. Everyone has a purpose and a reason for living. Its important to find your purpose and reason and impact the lives of those around you and never take for granted that life is forever and that tomorrow is promised. If you have the opportunity to tell someone you care and that you love them do it before its too late. I'm are definitely sure that Dariel was loved and will be missed and he has inspired many including my self to live life and be successful in life. My prayers go out to his friends, family, and loved ones!!

HPOW CHI 44 Iron Guard

Hello Blog Lovers!! I want to WELCOME all of my new subscribers to the blog!! This weeks Hair Product of the Week (HPOW) is the Chi 44 Iron Guard. The makers of this product states that it will work best with CHI flat Irons but I use it with my ceramic irons and so far I love this product!! I currently can't compare the performance of my flat iron vs. CHI but it works either way. Comparing this to former heat protectants that I've used in the past this product is not greasy, oily, and doesn't weigh my hair down with product film or residue. I mist this on my hair and just go through the flat ironing process. The smell of this product is similar to the CHI Silk Infusion which has a very great smell. The CHI 44 Iron Guard is lighter in fragrance that may be because it is in liquid form opposed to the CHI Silk Infusion which is a lot more thicker in consistency. HTOW: Applicator Brush

HTOW is making a COMEBACK!! This weeks Hair Tool of the week is the Applicator Brush. The reason why this is an important hair tool is because it can be used in color application, bleaching application, relaxer application, even applying the glue free quick weave. If you don't have this then you definitely need to get a few. They work wonders!!! What I like about the applicator brush is that it comes in all different sizes and the brushes are cut at different angles. The brush is reminiscent to that of a paint brush and when used correctly you can apply hair color, relaxer to the hair, and the glue free quick weave product evenly to the hair.

When applying hair color and bleach to the hair you can apply it first with the applicator brush evenly and then use the comb to comb it through the hair to make sure it's evenly on the hair from root to end.

Using the applicator brush for you relaxer application for both retouches and virgin relaxers will allow you to apply the relaxer to the roots evenly and keep it from being messy like when using just strictly a comb.
You can part the hair with the applicator brush in subsections because the tail of the applicator brush is just like the end of a rat-tail comb.

While applying the glue free hair product you can make sure that the product is smooth and even on the hair that you are trying to cover. Check out the applicator brush up close and personal below:

Hello Blog Lovers!! This Weeks Hair Product of the Week is the ApHogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer. I recently purchased this product about a week ago from my Sally's Beauty Supply Store. I heard good things about this product via YouTube and when I saw it I had to try it. I must say that I have used it twice since purchasing it and I love it. It will now be one of my staple leave in conditioners because I believe that it has made a difference in my hair. I combine this leave-in with my other leave-ins and my hair feels pillowy soft almost like that cotton ball soft. MsUNPERFECTHAIR.Com My Experience with MsPerfectHair.com

Hello Blog Lovers!! Happy Saturday!! I would like to Welcome all of my new followers and say Thanks to everyone for the feedback I've been receiving. This post is about a website that I was "affiliated" with but due to the outcome of the previous situation I encountered with the company I am no longer affiliated with this company at my own discretion. After I tell you why you will better understand.

I discovered this site MsPerfecthair.com via another YT Guru's Blog and I decided to check it out and once I noticed they had an affiliate program I decided to sign up for the program. Upon signing up and creating an affiliate account I decided to make my first purchase with the company. At the time they were having a Valentine's Day sale and the prices were great. They sell Indian Remy Hair, Virgin Indian Hair, Malaysian Hair, Chinese Hair, and even Brazilian Hair. These types of human hair extensions are supposed to be high quality human hair extensions as well as very expensive. They were selling the 18" Indian Remy Hair for $50.00 for a 4 oz bundle with the original price being that of $100.00 and more. So with the sale going on I purchased both a 18" and 20" both totaling to a little over $100.00. I was excited to see if the hair was actually what they said it would be. I placed my order on February 8, 2011 and a few days ago I realized that hey where is my hair????

A few days after I placed my order they had a mysterious system crash which deleted all of our account information. If you place an order with this company you are supposed to see step by step how your order is placed,processed, shipped, and delivered. This "system crash" deleted all of the information and they're staff was supposed to go back in and put the information back. I should add before I continue that this never happened, to this very moment my account says nothing! So I was just simply giving them the benefit of the doubt that they just needed time to complete and fix everything because they had a very "overwhelming rush of orders due to the sale and YT promotion." I'm not the type to make a big fuss without thinking things through thoroughly so after two weeks go by I'm like okay something is wrong with this and after the third week I was like HOLD UP!!! Where is my hair?? They have my money where is my order?????

Over this period of time they sent emails about how processing would take up to 7-10 business days and that also included shipment. After 7-10 days and counting I never received my order. They even sent out an email that they would call everyone about their order..I NEVER received a phone call (Idk maybe they weren't going to send it) I then start seeing YT videos of how people have received their hair and they are loving it. I've also seen YT videos where others have claimed that the hair smells like BSS Hair and one YTuber was amazed to discover how cheap human yaki hair blended so well with her "high quality Indian Hair". Can you say WOW!!! There are few that were satisfied and stated they would order again but the thing is will they get that opportunity??

I also came across the BHM (Black Hair Media) Hair Forum where there is a forum that says MsPerfectHair.com Buyers Beware and this forum was created a week after I placed my order so I am not only perplexed at this point but I am beginning to be furious as I read the commentary. I then deleted the link to their website in my sidebar of my blog. I refuse to be affiliated with any company or person with a shady reputation!!

I encourage you to click the links throughout this post to see what I now know about MsPerfectHair.com and the links below to YT Vids to see their reaction. I will say that I did contact MsPerfectHair several times and did not get any response about my order. It took my having to instant message them via my Gmail chat to get a response because conveniently for me they have Gmail email account. The representative that I talked to was understanding until I made comments about the BHM forum and then she became "jazzy" with me which I did not like and did not appreciate. She stated that she would refund my money and still send my order because due to the 4,567 orders they received I was only one out 3 that they messed up. Ummm okay if you are considered MsPerfectHair everything about your company from the customer service down to the shipment should be PERFECT.

I contacted some other people about their order due to an email that was sent to everyone who placed an order because they forgot to use the CC option so every one's email was sent to everyone (I took advantage of the fact I never delete anything in my inbox) so I sent an email. Here are a few of the responses that I did receive about their experience:

"dispute the claim...the only thing good I say about them right now is that I got my order fast and the price was ok.

but the hair quality is crap!!

it sheds waaaay more than normal and tangles soooo big it's like clumps of hair coming out daily. I take great pride in my hair and this is crazy.

they offered to upgrade me to the Brazilian and said that maybe I got a bad bundle...1 bad bundle is "somewhat" understandable but 2...I'm scared to even mess w/ the 3rd bag....get your money back
Oh yeah I receive no phone call either."

"I received hair but not the hair that I ordered. I attempted to contact customer service on numerous occasions and never got a reply. I ended up filing a dispute on paypal. I got a full refund. I never received a phone call during the customer calls week either. After I filed my dispute I received an e-mail from the "owner" of the company saying that I could keep the wrong hair I received, get a full refund, and they would send me the correct hair. I haven't checked to see if my money has been refunded yet but I seriously doubt that they'll send me the correct hair. Also, the "owner" of the company that sent me the e-mail saying all of this said her name was Candy Williams and from what I've been reading the owners name is suppose to be some woman Rebecca sooo.... I really believe the company is going to try to run away with a lot of people's money."

"I also ordered on the 8th also and didn't get any calls or email I got tired of being patient and 2 days ago I went to msperfect account and did a request asking them when if and when my hair was comic and was told I should have it by Friday. They answered with in minutes. Hope this helps" She never received the order

As you can see MsPerfectHair is everything but PERFECT (there is more in the forum) they have not filled orders correctly and even failed to ship orders including mine. Before I conclude this post I must also say that according to the BHM forum which you should have viewed or should view in a separate window is that MsPerfectHair.com maybe potentially owned and operated by Nicole Matthews who also owned NBKS Hair and even OhMyhairboutique.com both of those are shut down by the way. They sold the same type of hair and even other kinds of hair. They shipped out some orders and didn't ship out others. They took money from people and then closed the website down period. Check this out too it may also tickle your fancy.

"Most women that ordered from Nicole’s best Kept Secret loved the hair they bought but would never receive their hair in time for appointments. None of them were aware that the hair they loved o much happened to be hair that they could spend 80 bucks flat on in their local Beauty stores.
When the going got tough, Nicole would make claims of having been in a the hospital or out of the country for business purposes and would blatantly pretend that the hair had to have been stolen or lost by companies such as FedEx and/or UPS.
She would then use the money that she had not spent on various personal matters and purchase Bobbi Boss, Virgin Indian Hair and send them off to clients that expected hair from Brazil, India, and Malaysia."

That may explain the BSS Store bought smell on the hair. Is the same person?? IDK what do you guys think or suspect by now??

From my experience I will tell everyone if you are going to buy anything offline and if it's from a website, eBay, or from a YT person do your background research. I found nothing and all of this comes out after I place my order which I didn't receive. Ask around first if you are not sure before you make a purchase. People work hard for their money and to be scammed out of it is just shameful.

I did file a claim with Paypal and I did get my money back. Will I still receive the hair they stated they would send it remains to be seen. I have two statements that stated they would and I am just hoping that MsPerfectHair.com will actually show me that they are indeed some what perfect. We all make mistakes true enough but if you're perfect what does that say about you when you do make a mistake. That you're everything but perfect.

I apologize for the length of this post. Very rare but I had to let my readers know as well as the World Wide Web about this. I was going to do a YT video and I will but I am going to wait to see when and if I get the hair so I can give it my "sniff test" to determine if my own findings are true. Side note: The affiliate tab is missing on the website wonder what happened to it??? I'm DONE with this company. I'm also thankful I did get my money back but I do really want the hair (that was the point to begin with).

BTW this is my experience and I will not retract anything or my statements or comments my job is to provide the truth and there it goes. I have documentation to prove everything. I moderate all comments anything crazy will get you the boot.

HPOW: One 'n Only Argan Oil Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner

Hello Blog Lovers!! I know it's been a while since my last HPOW post because I was wanting to post a lot of my YT videos (Be on the look out for more videos in the future) however we are back in business. I have been trying some new products and I have some reviews I want to share along with some of my favorite products. This weeks HPOW (Hair Product of the Week) is the One n' Only Argan Oil Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner. Recently I posted up some facts about Argan Oil and the great benefits and since I was on an Argan Oil frenzy I saw this shampoo in Sally's Beauty Supply and I just had to try it! It was cold at the time and I knew that I wanted/needed to try a new moisturizing shampoo because the dry air was affecting my hair. Moisturizing shampoos are excellent for the winter months to keep the hair from drying out due to the lack of moisture in the air outside. Sigma Beauty Professional Make-up Brush Set

Hello Blog Lovers!!! I hope every one's weekend has been great so far! I wanted to share with you guys my new make-up brushes!! Elegant Edge is going to focus more on beauty products this year as well as continue in everything and all things about hair. I'm on a journey this year and I'm going to share it with you guys!

I just recently purchased my first set of Sigma Make-up Brushes and I am excited to say the least! I had heard lots of great things about these brushes and so I recently decided to purchase my first set. I shared with my Youtube subscribers that I was aiming to build up my make-up collection and along with that comes the tools that I need to create flawless looks for myself and others.

Initially my first reaction is that the brushes are extremely soft like feathers. I think every face should come in contact with these brushes when I say that I am ecstatic about using these brushes I am ecstatic!! I feel like I will get some good use from these brushes. They were not expensive and I think I may just get my bang for my buck!!

How to Clean your Sigma Brushes

My Sigma Brush Kit came with a informational card that gives directions on how to clean my brushes without ruining them completely. I think that is just awesome especially for those who are just getting into Make-up. According to the card Sigma recommends cleaning their brushes with brush cleanser or a mild baby shampoo before using but do not wet wood handle and the junction between the handle and the ferrule (metal section). Argan Oil and All Its Benefits

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! This is the first blog post for the year 2011 and many more to come! I wanted to start off by saying Thank You to all of my followers for following the blog throughout the year 2010!! I also want to say Welcome to my new followers!! This year is going to be great and I'm glad you're here to share it with me!!

Let me just say that before I started to really dig deeper into growing my hair and also trying new things, I just recently decided to start using hair oils. Before I was extremely skeptical of using a lot of oils on my hair simply because after a few days my hair has the tendency to get oily on its on. So I decided to give it try so I've been using hair oils on my hair for a while and coconut oil was the first one that I used which I discussed in my post the benefits and just experimenting in general. The next oil that I want to try is Argan Oil. I have been using some hair products that contain Argan Oil but I am going to get some in its own little bottle just to have. I will discuss those products in later posts.

So whats the 411 on Argan Oil??

Argan oil is the end result of crushed nuts from the argan tree. After these nuts (pictured above) have been crushed there is oil that is released thus producing Argan oil.
Argan Oil is proven to solve dry hair, dull hair, and frizzy hair. It surpasses jojoba oil and olive oil and is rich in Vitamin E. It contains Omega 3 and Omega 9 unsaturated fatty acids and provides nutrition to hair.
Just like Coconut oil it can penetrate the hair shaft and repair damaged hair follicles. It's excellent for increasing the shine of lack luster dry hair by locking moisture into the hair. The oil is non greasy and non oily and great for taming frizzy, unmanageable hair.
It's light and almost weightless, less probability of build up and also helps to soften hair.
Acts as a shield for harmful UV rays and protects the hair from environmental pollution. It's very effective for hair growth and helps to repair and inhibit the occurrence of split ends. It's also great for hair loss.

The oil works wonders for dry coarse hair and helps to soften the strands and make it silky.

How to Use it:

Heat the oil and apply it to your scalp and hair. Dip a towel in hot water and wrap it around your hair. The heat from the towel will make the hair follicles absorb the oil.
Wash your hair with a mild shampoo and follow it with a conditioner.
For split ends, massage a few drops of argan oil on your hair after shampooing and conditioning.

The Benefits of using Coconut Oil

Hello Blog lovers! As promised on my previous blog post Becoming a Mixtress experimenting with hair oils I discussed how I have been using Coconut Oil on my hair as a pre-poo/deep conditioner and to my surprise it has helped my hair a lot. I haven't been able to use it lately because I had my hair in a sew-in but I will be picking back up with the treatments this week when I shampoo my hair. I know its a lot of different things on the web about coconut oil but I wanted to share it anyway because as promised I am going to discuss the benefits of using Coconut Oil on the hair.

The Facts

Coconut oil has a extremely great moisture retaining capacity: It can't be broken down easily nor evaporated. It won't let moisture escape from the hair and in turn keeps the hair moistened and soft. Using Coconut Oil will prevent breakage of the hair. It has been proven to replenish the vital oils that give your hair shine and bounce and reduce split ends. It naturally penetrates the hair shaft and helps to reduce protein loss. It contains fatty acids that are proven to enhance and strengthen the hair shaft. Coconut Oil contains both Lauric Acid and Capric Acid which are both antimicrobial which is good for fighting off bacteria on the hair and scalp. It contains Vitamin E which keeps the hair rejuvenated and scalp and skin healthy. Coconut Oil contains fatty acids which serve as a very good anti-dandruff agent. Coconut oil usage over time will get rid of dandruff and is better than dandruff shampoo. The same fatty acids are proven to enhance and strengthen the hair shaft.

I know it has been a minute since I have posted a HTOW blog post but I almost felt as though I had pretty much disscussed them all (which I know I havent but I felt like I pretty much covered the majority) until now! This weeks HPOW is the Cantu Shea Butter Hair Dressing Pomade. On last week the HPOW was the Cantu Grown Strong Strengthening Treatment. I purchased this product along with the last HPOW that was discussed. I love this product as well and it smells just as good as the other one. At first when I picked it up I was just being curious but I was also a little fearful of using it because when I think of pomade I think of something thick and heavy and hard hair. I don't have short hair that needs to be spiked so what exactly could I use it for and how could I use it on my hair? So being the impulse shopper that I am I picked it up and bought it. Whats the 411: Nicki Minaj "Did it on em" lyrics

Hello Blog Lovers! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!! I unforntually had a busy one as usual and Im trying to recover from being under the weather. This post is about an issue that was brought to my attention via YouTube and it has to do with hair issues and one of our very own female mcs that just dropped her debut album. This is my honest opinion and I will try my hardest to not be bias because I am a Nicki Minaj fan for several reasons. I will discuss those reasons later on in the post.

This morning as I always do, I check my twitter, youtube, facebook, and email just to see what went down between the hours that I was sleeping. One of my favorite Youtube Gurus African Export posted a new video which was in my must watch section of my youtube page and I clicked it because I love to hear what she has to say and because it was about Nicki Minaj. African Export keeps it 100 all the time. She doesn't stray away from that and she doesn't sugar coat anything for anyone. That's what I love about her because I love to do the same thing. Her video was in response to another youtuber who made a video about Pink Friday as an album review. However, she only focused on the one song that stood out to her and not all the other ones (which didn't make it an album review). The particular song that is up for discussion is the third song off of the Pink Friday Album entitled Did it on Em. I actually like the song, I thought it was catchy and what stood out to me the most was the hook. There is a line with in the song that goes something like this:

"I'm the terminator bitch talk slick Imma have to terminate her
These little nappy headed hoes need a perminator."

The overall discussion now is that Nick Minaj is a Natural Hair Hater. The Youtuber that brought the lyrics to the forefront also says that there is a hype man in the back ground who is co-signing what she says and is singing the Just For Me Relaxer theme song (Wow who would have thought that little tape that was included inside of every relaxer kit would have still have such an impact today) I didn't hear the song being song over Nicki's bars that she was rapping but I did hear the hype man the few times I have the CD in rotation. I wasn't offended and even if I was natural I wouldn't be offended. I don't know her she don't know me so it would have been just a song to me I wouldn't have felt she hated me because I chose to be natural. I don't feel she is a natural hair hater. If you viewed her documentary that was shown on MTV with her family it appears that some of them may be naturals which would be absurd for her to hate natural hair because she appeared to just simply adore her family members. I am so confused because in my opinion the whole album from start to finish is her basically expressing herself on a lot of issues that reflect what she has been going through for the last few years she has been in the industry. A lot of her lyrics are directed towards those who have doubted her as an artist, lyricist, and as an individual. If you have been one that keeps up with the media you should be aware of her beef with Lil Kim and other lyricist that have dissed her instead of supporting her. In my opinion the song is basically her talking smack to whomever she felt like talking about. I didn't feel that she was talking about the entire Natural Hair Community.

She is a lyricist that is known for her catchy off the wall lyrics and this is one of those lyrics. She isn't afraid to say what others aren't afraid to say and her style is off the wall and her hair matches her lyrical expression. She is Nicki Minaj and she isn't afraid to push the envelope and be her. That's why I like her as an artist. She keeps it girlie and fun. I am not into the whole Barbie thing because I stop playing with barbies a long time ago but I think its cute. Dolls a pretty..barbies are pretty...they are adorned...and I Iconic and I think that is the idea behind the barbie wave even if some of us don't get it. I think this is overall a case of something that was said that was taken out of context like everyone does nowadays on a regular basis. This isn't the case with the basket ball coach who was white and everyone on the team is African American. However I am not saying because Nicki Said it is better or okay..but what I am saying is the context behind it isn't the same.

Whats more relevant than downsizing Nicki's album sales by protesting and hating her now because of the song on the album??? Glad you asked and are willing to listen.... Global Issues, Poverty, and what really affects the African American Community such as: HIV Aids, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Cancer, Dead Beat Dads, and a whole lot more that I care not to mention.
I think that is more relevant than this issue period. Hair is an accessory and should not be the epicenter of your being. Yes I am for embracing your hair and taking care of it. I am also for embracing everyone as a whole and also being real rational. To jump the conclusion that she hates natural hair is irrational to me. The time wasted getting upset about what she said and what she represents could have been used on spreading awareness about relevant issues. Its time to stop letting what others think of us and say about us become relevant. The statement, feelings, thoughts, and concerns of others about who you are as a person and individual is irrelevant. RuPaul said it best when he said what others think and say about me is none of my business. I have adopted that and I think it says a lot when you can live your life for who you are and not for others.

My question for everyone is this How do we not know she isn't natural??? So how can we say she is a Natural Hair Hater??

She wears wigs and extensions and I know a lot of women who are natural underneath but choose to wear wigs and keep it that way. We are all doing our own thing lets support each other and embrace each other. I mean lets be real people!!

I purchased this at Wal-mart, if I remember correctly it was around 5-6 dollars. This product should be available at all retail stores like Wal-mart, Target, and even your BSS. If you check the website it will direct you to where you can buy this product and try it out amongst the other fabulous product that they have.

Becoming a Mixtress: Experimenting with Hair Oils

Hello Blog lovers! I know it has been an extreme long time since my last post and I apologize I have not given up on you all or my blog period. I love to share and talk so if I ever decide I'm finished blogging I will definitely be finished sharing and talking. Today is not the day so I'm sharing! Giggles.

Over the past month (since my last post) I purchased some hair oils to start using on my hair. I will admit that in the past I was totally on the fence about using hair oils on my hair simply because I didn't want my hair to be weighed down or extremely greasy from using hair oils. I was using light hair moisturizer and hair cremes to keep my hair moisturized and not dry, but I was anti-oil all day every day. The reason was because my hair can get oily and weighed down on it's own after a few days of washing. So after all the researching I could do along with YouTube video reviews I decided let's try it and see what actually happens.

I shared it with my mother that I wanted to start doing deep conditioning treatments with coconut oil so I wanted her to purchase me some virgin coconut oil whenever she went back to the Farmers Market (everything at the farmer's market is natural and organic and it's cheap!) So she purchased me some pure virgin coconut oil. I was ecstatic to say the least and I was anxious to try it after getting excited from all the buzz around the product. When I was ready to wash my hair I took a applicator bottle and filled it with three table spoons of coconut oil and added some vitamin E Oil and Carrot Aloe Oil to it as well (just a few drops) I saturated my hair with the oils after blending the two together and wrapped my hair down with some plastic wrap. Then I went to bed.

I will be honest and say that I used entirely too much oil because it was all over my sheets the next morning (LOL). Never again!! I wasn't disappointed because the oil can wash out but I never went to bed with that much oil on my hair again. The next morning I shampooed my hair and conditioned it as usual. I couldn't really tell a major difference but it was soft.

My hair was shedding more than usual because of the transition of the weather from summer to fall. If you have ever noticed that your hair sheds more in the colder months than the summer months it's because of the humidity in the air. The air is a lot drier in the colder months than in the summer months. The next time I used the oil mixture I simply mixed it in with my favorite deep conditioner and I noticed that particular week less hair shedding. I decided that it would be better for me if I use my coconut oil mixture as a pre-poo or for deep conditioning under a hooded dryer.

I love it and I am going to continue using it because not only am I on a healthy hair journey but I'm beginning a journey that involves learning new things that will help benefit me later in the future. I purchased more hair oils such as tea tree oil, carrot oil, vitamin e oil, grape seed oil, olive oil and also pure Shea butter oil from my local BSS to help me with my experimenting process. I know there are a lot of mixtresses out there and a lot of blogs that discuss these oils and may share the same information but I hope you guys stick around for my journey. I currently have my hair in a sew-in and I will be doing a length check when I remove it. Until then I will be posting more information in depth about the oils that I purchased and how they can help benefit your hair. I have some more hair tools of the week along with hair products of the week. I also have some more things to come that will be geared towards my hair stylist career and my other passion Fashion Design. I have a lot of things that I will be working on in the upcoming few weeks for the start of 2011.

I love my Hair

Hello Blog Lovers! I know I've been MIA for a while and I appologize I've been working on somethings and along with my MBA I've been extremely busy. I was just browsing through other blogs (mostly gossip) and I came across this post that pertained the video below (Hopefully it will play). After watching it I was slightly teary eyed simply for two reasons (my opinion) 1. It was just the cutest thing and the idea was just as cute 2. It saddens me that at an early age our children (African American) are going through the "my hair is ugly phase." I don't remember going through this growing up and now at 23 years old I hear more about it more than ever before. Why is this such an issue and why are our kids having to be subjected to this so young. I currently don't have children and I can only imagine what will happen when I do have children and if I'm blessed to have a little girl what am I going to tell her when and if she says "Mommy my hair is ugly can I get a perm?" I may just have to sit down and think about it and let everything that she just asked me register first before I respond. Then my mind will remember this day October 19, 2010 where I saw the video pertaining to this song "I love my hair". I ultimately would like to say that I won't break down in tears (maybe so IDK) but I would just simply tell her that her hair is not ugly and her hair is what makes her unique. Altering her hair won't change who she is on the inside but will only give you an appearance that may seem to be acceptable. If others can't accept you for who you are that is their issue for them to deal with. We have to be strong and confident and we have to embrace who we are as individuals. If everyone was doing everything the same way this world would consist of robots and not human beings. Your black is beautiful, my black is beautiful and our black is beautiful. I know I'm relaxed and I'm not all together sure if I will remain relaxed when I become a mother. I do know that I won't be that mother that is like okay she's 10 so lets relax her hair so I don't have to deal with it. I may decide to leave her natural and let her decide when she is ready if she wants to take that step. This life that we live is all about making choices and growing from the choices that we make. I will leave that up to her and allow her to explore who she is because I can't do that for her.

I think we should all continue (if you haven't started maybe now is the time) to learn to embrace each other for our individuality. Treat others like you desire to be treated. It's up to us to break the cycle of the stigma that follows the choices behind becoming natural, being natural, having chemically processed hair or whatever you would like to call it, but it's time for us to embrace each other for our unique attributes that make us that individual. I think that Sesame Street (one of my all time fave kid shows) made an effort to say that everyone is different and it's okay to be different. I didn't find it offensive but I saw the message. All I can say is Wow.

HTOW: Hair Tool Focus-Tourmaline Technology and Ceramic Technology in Flat Irons What's the Difference?

Hello Blog Lovers! Happy Hump Day the Weekend is almost here. I'm excited. This week's Hair Tool of the Week will be a Hair Tool Focus. I've discussed several different flat irons in my HTOW posts and I just wanted to focus this week on Tourmaline Technology that is used in today's newest flat irons. I have purchased two flat irons within the past month and I must say I am hooked! I had to chunk my old ceramic flat iron that I've had for ever and a day on last week. I must say once you switch you will not go back. You can tell the difference and it is very prevalent.

So what's the difference? I'm glad you asked!!

Tourmaline is actually a crystal in it's rare form. When it comes to it being used in flat irons it's ground up finely and then applies to cover the plates of the flat iron. In this form it produces a high volume of negative ions when combined with the heat from the flat iron. Those negative ions that are emitted help to straighten the hair quicker thus producing less heat damage to the hair cuticle. This is what gives the hair the silky smooth final result that we all desire to have.

Regular Ceramic Flat irons are known for their ability to heat up quickly. Some reach their highest temperature with in 10 seconds which is why it produces quick straightening results. They are also known for their ability to distribute heat evenly which reduces the amount of time you have to run the iron over the hair shaft which reduces excessive heat damage to the hair cuticle.

Okay And?? They both reduce heat damage so what's really the difference??

After trying my Tool Science Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron I could really tell the difference! My hair was soft and very silky. I was so surprised! I mentioned in my HTOW post how great it was when I used it on someone Else's hair in Beauty School. Now my hair is #cosigning it! My sister loves it too (she just had to try it)! I just recently re-styled my hair as I did in the Hair bonding 101 post I posted last week and of course I flat ironed my hair first before I rolled so I chose to use my old flat iron to create my curls because the width of my old flat iron is wider than my Tool Science flat iron. I could tell the difference in how drab my hair looked the next day after my curls fell. I was like oh wow...so I recreated the curls with my Tool Science flat iron (because you can, I was worried about the width but it's minor compared to the actual results) and I was just oh wow the entire time. There is a major difference and I suggest that you switch to a flat iron as well as the hair dryer (which dries the hair faster) your hair will love it and I guarantee you will love it too!

I had to dis and then dismiss my old flat iron but I must say we did have some good times together and I used her to the fullest capacity and potential and we both worked well together to push out some fly hair styles but I must say my Tourmaline Flat Iron does it better.

Hair Bonding 101: Styling my hair with Flexi Rods!

This is my method of using the flexi rods. They can be done without curling the hair first and they can be used while the hair is wet. This is merely and option.

I'm Back! My Mini Hiatus and Soap And Glory Review

Hello Blog Lovers and Welcome to my new followers!! I have been MIA for a few weeks now and I apologize. I have however made an effort to keep up with what's going on in the blogger world. I've also taken good notes and I have some great things coming up. I have been busy with school I'm currently working on my Master's Degree in Business and work has been just as busy. I'm also working on developing a new blog and I've been busy working on the details for that. Stay tuned it will be interesting. I'm back and in full effect!

A few weeks ago I was in Target and I was browsing the beauty section. As always I was in there for cleaning supplies and not beauty products but I came across this display for Soap and Glory products and what caught my eye was the colors and the vintage pictures that grace the products and packaging. I will be honest, this was my first time coming across these products. Some are probably thinking where have you been?? Under a rock?? My Response: IDK maybe I have. Giggles.

I was very intrigued by all of the products on the shelf and I really wanted to grab everything there just to try it but I didn't I kept it simple. I purchased the body butter (The Daily Smooth Amazingly-Effective Dry Skin Formula Body Butter) which has Rosehip Seed Oil and Cocoa Butter. It's scented with the brands Mist you Madly body spray which has Bergamot, Blackcurrent, Magnolia, Freesia, and Vanilla Musk. I ♥ it! It's not too loud and it's not over powering. It leaves the skin smooth and silky. My sister and mother love it as well.
This body butter gets my five star stamp ★★★★★. This is priced at $14.99 at Target locations

I also purchased the Glam A lot Fragrant Body Spray. I ♥ this as well. It smells great. It's not loud or overpowering either. It has a Vanilla Musk scent as well. I will definitely make a purchase of these two products and more in the future. This body spray also has my five star stamp★★★★★. This is priced at $9.99 at Target Locations

Conditioners what's really the difference?? Introduction

Hello Blog Lovers! I've recently talked about scalp conditions and overall issues with the scalp and there are a lot more things that could be discussed but I covered the more common issues that some tend to deal with on a regular basis. If you have any other questions let me know!! I want to discuss Conditioners and what the many different types of conditioners and what they should be used for and how often they should be used.

Conditioners are special chemical agents applied to the hair to deposit protein or moisturizer, to help restore its strength and give it body or to protect it against possible breakage. They are only temporary solutions for hair that feels dry, appears damaged, or is damaged. They can only repair to a certain extent but can not necessarily "fix or heal" the hair that is damaged, and can not improve the quality of new hair growth. Conditioners can restore luster, shine, manageability, and strength while the hair that may be damaged will grow long enough to be cut off (keep in mind that once the hair is damaged by either chemicals or heat it's hard to restore it and the end result may be to cut the hair off and start over; not necessarily all the way down to the roots but where the dead ends begin). Frequent shampooing, use of heat styling tools, use of hair coloring products and heat from blow dryers conditioning is crucial if you wish to maintain "healthy" hair.

Habitual misuse of conditioners can lead to build up on the hair making it heavy and oily. This can lead to you having to frequently shampoo your hair often which will require frequent use of shampoos. Constant frequent shampooing will strip the hair of its protective oils which will lead to more usage of conditioners. Since conditioners are made up of chemicals it's important to read instructions on how often the conditioner should be used. Using the conditioner the incorrect way will lead to further problems.

Conditioners are available in three different types: Rinse-out, Treatment or repair, and Leave-in.

Rinse Out: These types of conditioners are applied to the hair only to be rinsed out after they have been manipulated through the hair for detangling purposes.

Treatment or repair: These are deep penetrating conditioners (Deep Conditioners) that require 10-20 minutes of time to be effective on the hair. They restore protein and moisture. Sitting under a hooded dryer allows for deeper penetration. SN: If you do not have a hooded dryer or dryer bonnet you can leave it on your hair for 45 minutes to an hour (depending on the conditioner; you don't want to over do it) the heat from your head will work just as fine (as I've stated before).

Leave-in: Applied to the hair after shampooing and not rinsed out. There are some that can be used daily (my new fave Cantu leave in conditioning creme) without having to shampoo the hair.

As we all may know Conditioners contain silicone's along with moisture-binding humectants. Humectants are substances that absorb moisture or promote the retention of moisture. The silicone (which I discussed further in my Silicone Good or Bad post) makes the hair appear shiny. Other ingredients within the conditioners help to reduce frizz and bulk up the hair (giving the hair body). Most treatments and leave-ins contain proteins, which penetrate the cortex layer of the hair and reinforce the hair shaft from the inside out.

Conditioners are great for the hair when used properly. When it comes to me conditioning my hair the weeks that I don't deep condition, I may use a rinse out conditioner or I may just use a leave-in conditioner. I will often times combine the two, meaning I will use the rinse out conditioner in the shower and then use a leave in conditioner just for good measure. I use the HCO leave in blow drying conditioner every single time I shampoo my hair simply because it's used to help protect the hair during the blow drying process and when I say that product is the best it's the BEST!! Always use the conditioner that works best for your hair type and hair issue. Always follow manufacturers directions. Try not to skip out on using conditioners.

HPOW: Silk Elements MegaSilk Intense Conditioning Mayonnaise

This weeks Hair Product of the Week is another Silk Elements Product. Silk Elements is once again one of my favorites. Design Essential Products being number one and this product line is number two. You always have to have a back up line (in my opinion) when you can't get a hold of your favorite products. The reason why I tried this conditioner is because they didn't have the other one that I always use. Once again I am loving this conditioner just as much as anything else from their product line. The one thing that was a little new for me is all of the "seeds and grains" (I'm not sure if that's what it really is or not), the mayonnaise reminds me of a sandwich spread in color and appearance. It has what looks like seeds and grains (I'm assuming they are bits and pieces of herbs) mixed in it. I thought at first it was going to be difficult to wash out my hair but it's not at all. It may even (not saying this is fact) be an added boost that dissolves on the hair from the heat of the hair dryer. I have used it on my hair twice since I purchased it a few weeks back and I am happy with this product as all of their other products. I use this as a deep conditioner every two weeks. I'm really just now getting into making a lot of my purchases there, as far as hair products are concerned. Silk Elements hair products to me is like the neo soul artist that everyone is "sleeping on" but when you listen to a few songs you buy the whole album and then once you buy the album you're now a fan. That's how I can describe Silk Elements it's that one product line that everyone else is "sleeping on" but deep down it's one of those product lines that are what I consider to be the "Truth" or "That bizness" as I would say. This product is going for $7.99 at Sally's Beauty Supply Store. Although it's in the same type of jar as the original MegaSilk Conditioner it's a total different experience for the hair.

I made a small purchase at Sally's Beauty Supply store this past weekend and I was looking for a slim flat iron to use on a friends hair and to just have for future use. I needed a slimmer flat iron to help me style short hair styles so I ran across several but I wanted one that was good and affordable.
